Well it's now official- Nerf finally announced their "Light it Up" series of blasters for an official 3-3-12 release on their Facebook page: the Rayven CS-18 and the Vortex Lumitron. They both sport the same colour schemes, only as we've discussed earlier- one's an N-Strike blaster and one's a Vortex blaster. Once again there are some odd production decisions here; the Rayven is a completely new design blaster, whereas the Lumitron essentially looks like a Praxis repaint, sans stock.
Still, the bonus is they'll be coming with the 'firefly tech' clips which have a built in blue LED that charges the new glow in the dark streamlines/xlr discs. They are interchangable so once you pick this blaster up, the clips can be used on all of your other N-Strike or Vortex blasters. Be interesting to see if they'll release the clips separately but I'd suggest no...
Rayven's have already been spotted in various locations around the US, so I'd suggest the Lumitron is going to be available pretty soon. The trend is normally blasters do come out before the official release date.. somewhere:)
I'm partially annoyed about a few things, even though I do admit that I like the Firefly Tech and this whole concept in general. What I don't like is that the Rayven is already becoming readily available over two months before the big "launch date" and that the Lumitron is nothing more but a recolored Praxis missing it's stock but hasn't hit shelves. So the blaster that should've carried more hype with it, the Rayven (being new and all) is already out and the blaster that's just a redo of something we already have gets to wait around for this release date that essentially means nothing now.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing Nerf has a good following or else this marketing ploy of their "release date" would surely flop.
With Nerf's reputation for release dates, I've noticed the blasters might come out before the release dates come out...

So ticked about the Lumitron. The idea of glow-in-the-dark discs is really cool, since they'd have more surface area to make glow, but they just had to make it a FREAKING REPAINT of a gun people already have!
ReplyDeleteAt this point in time we're not sure the Lumitron IS a definite Praxis repaint so I don't want to be too presumptuous, I'm just going off the pictures so far.
ReplyDeleteIt's not unlikely that it is similar though- it'd be in the same vain as the Super Soaker Thunderstorm and Lightning storm- same gun, just different accessories.
Perhaps this is just because I don't own a Praxis, but frankly, the only thing that bugs ME is the lack of a stock on the Lumitron.
ReplyDeleteHHHMMM.... i wonder if "Light It Up" will be the new gear up series, i hope we have both, because i wish they would make something better
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Lumitron is a slamfire Praxis? I'm not holding my breath though..
ReplyDeleterolley,
ReplyDeleteI think the praxis does have slam fire.

Well, its not really slam fire, but....
Oh Yeah
+1 Bazookafied
ReplyDeleteI do believe the release date only applies to the Lumitron.
ReplyDelete"the Vortex Lumitron blaster, hitting shelves on 3.3.12,"
I agree... And you just proved almost everybody wrong!
DeleteThe Lumitron is just more proof that Hasbro does not give a fuck.
ReplyDeleteI don't see any problem in a few rayvens getting snuck out before the release date. it gives them a little moer value for the moment. I can always wait for a gun repaint though so it's not like it's necessary to pre-release any of those i'd say. I've been searching all the stores around here though since early december and have yet to find a Rayven XD they evade me.
ReplyDeletewill they be out in the same day in the uk
ReplyDeleteI Have already seen the Rayven at my local Target and I'm pretty sure it was $29.99
ReplyDeleteWhere, exactly, are you? I need to know since I intend to obtain one ASAP.
ReplyDeleteIm still stoked about the rayven esp if its $30 ^ I have a feeling they're gonna be more at places like toysrus tho. modding potential seems limited as well. The lumitron is def just a repaint w a larger clip(20).I would love another moderately priced non-battery powered vortex blaster besides from a glow in the dark repaint
ReplyDeleteReally Nerf, "Light It Up", thats just sad
ReplyDeletei just bought a rayven for 29.99 at target
ReplyDeletei got the rayven from target for 29.99 and its by far the best fly wheel based blaster ive seen
ReplyDeleteAnon, is it much better than "Clear the Way"?
ReplyDeleteDo you know if the batteries are carried in the clip or the gun?
ReplyDeleteI NEED TO KNOW!
Deleteboth
Deleteboth
Delete4 in the gun, 3 in the clip
both aa
Thanks! what about in the lumitron?
DeleteFrom what i've seen of the Ryvan, both, theres a 4xAA battery compartment on the gun to power the flywheels and a 3xAAA set on the clip to charge the Darts.
ReplyDelete@Anon Both

The lumitron and glow discs refill packs have started to come up on walmart wedsite. They have been on the shelves in my local walmart for a weeek know. I HAVE one.
ReplyDeleteIs it good? Is it a Praxis repaint?
DeleteCrazyCon
just got a lumitron, rayven, and a speed swarm at my target
ReplyDeleteI picked one up for 29.99 at Target in LA. Last one there, too. Last anon, there are three AAs in the clip and 4 in the gun itself. Still, I'm surprised by how lightweight it is.
