Variants- Our thoughts

Soo..Gear Up variants- you’ve had your say.. some of you like it and some of you don’t. The question I’ve gotten a lot over the past week is will I pick them up when (or in regards to Australia - if?!) they come out.. I gotta say I’m pretty sure we will. We’d like to think our current Nerf blaster collection is pretty comprehensive; I’m a completionist and have pretty much picked up everything Nerf can bring out (sometimes even 2 or 3 of them), regardless of whether I actually like it:P Other than the Sonic series Deploy and the Clear Vulcan, we’ve done pretty well to acquire the current lineup (emphasis on current- no, no Airtech’s or Crossbows..).

Although I would have liked to see more variety with blasters than just the usual suspects- I do actually like the ‘alert tape’/’construction site’ paint scheme, and I especially am looking forward to the updated Raider even though there is already a clear variant. The Raider is one of my favourite blasters so I don’t mind owning several of them and at least three of the four Gear Up blasters will support a stock attachment so it’ll be nice to coordinate amongst them (.. assuming you DO get all of the range!) I personally believe they would have done a LOT better if they repainted the Stampede, Alpha Trooper, Spectre and Barrel Break- IMHO that would have been a much more suitable “gear up VS the Vortex” line that would probably be enough of a stimulus to get people buying.

Still.. it is what it is. With all the whinging and complaining though, the one thing to remember is ultimately no-one’s forcing you to buy them. Like with the 'Clear the Way's' and the 'Sonic Series', they’re not replacing or discontinuing the existing line, they’re a short burst run that’ll be gone by September/October.

No doubt there’ll be plenty of repaints in the future.. so how abouts we get in early folks; what blaster and repaint design combination would attract you to buy a variant?

  1. Not exactly answering your question but I think that the repaints would be cooler to me if they made some subtle changes to the blaster aesthetics. Like for instance like the N-strike insignia. The AT, BB, Spectre, Barricade, and the Stampede all got updated logos. All of the "repainted" blasters are all using the same plastic casting molds as the 1st gen N-strikes with the first N-strike logo.

  2. You make an excellent point about the Gear Up line in general. I think what made more of the negative comments about them was the fact that they didn't choose more newer blasters like you stated (Stampede, Spectre, Alpha Trooper, etc). Oh well. It's Nerf and... like you said, we'll buy it!

  5. I would like a repaint of the barrel break. It is one of what I think is the best looking nerf guns.I also wish that they would make it with a longer barrel in the coming present.

  6. I'd really like a repainted Alpha Trooper. It's my fav blaster. So, a new paint job would really do it justice.

  8. Honestly, a repaint of the Longstrike would be pretty sweet. Add that and an AT in painted like the 2011 super soaker line, and you have one happy buyer!

  9. I agree with most of the suggestions above me.
    Alpha Trooper, and the Longstrike.

I know this is just keeping my hopes up but a repaint of the Longshot would be sweet too.

I love the repaint to be honest. and the orange/black color seems really neat to me because of the halloweenish colors. I love how they also are doing custom darts with it.

  13. I'd love to see a re-release of the crimson strike series(Not as an exclusive though). A stampede from that would be ideal.

  14. I agree with your choice of blasters for the gear-up series, but Id really prefer if nerf just made the newer blasters (dart-tag, spectre etc.) more available in Australia

  15. I would like to see more guns get a blue and/or yellow alternate color schemes. Like the Alpha Trooper and LongStrike. I would also like a few re colors of the Spectre.
