Appearing on Baidu is what looks like an official box art pic of the upcoming Mega Centurion. While the image isn't the sharpest so it's hard to make out the text, it still does give us some more clues about the blaster- mainly that it's BIG, and it comes with 6 oversized whistler darts. You'll also notice the use of the app device cradle that was publicised with the upcoming Rebelle series- we can see it's going to be featured in the "boys" lines too. :P
It's also interesting how on the left they call it the "N-Strike MEGA series" whereas on the right top hand corner is the N-Strike ELITE logo so I do feel it's having a bit of an identity crisis:)
Thanks to Black Ops for the lead!
Interesting how it's using whistlers, yet it is a clip system gun. I cant wait to get my hands on one and crack open the casing.
ReplyDeletenot whistlers, "mungo" darts as named by the modding community, they are 1 inch by 3 inchs, a lot larger than megas
Delete"mungo" darts or not. It says "Mega Whistler Darts" right on the box. They are definitely whistler darts. They even have an interesting design to the clip, probably to hold them without problem.
DeleteEither way, I can't wait to get a hold of one of these to paint. Gonna be a lot of fun!
The clip design has nothing to do with the darts, remember the dart tag line which could use suction cup, dart tag darts and whistlers, the mag curved back not forwards, also MEGA is honestly a bad name for these darts because that's what the old larger darts were called and they had a diameter of 5/8 inch while these are 1 inch in diameter.
DeleteI wonder if the handle/trigger can be moved to right behind the magazine?
ReplyDeleteI'm still unsure of how I feel about this blaster. It is awesome, but I think the Rapidstrike will better suit my playstyle.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I think the Centurion could well become the modder's favourite as I'm sure there is plenty of room for improvement.
mega i think refers to the ammo size not the product line
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S A HUGE DRAW LENGTH. This thing is gonna leave a hole in whatever it hits.
ReplyDeletealso notice out of the 3 imagines of this including this one, the box art ones are consistent in design and paint job. The other one has larger MEGA text and different white line.
ReplyDeleteMy best guess besides just saying it is faked is that the non box art one may be a prototype design before it was finalized for the box art.
DeleteNot liking what I'm seeing here, don't get me wrong this is the next blaster on my wishlist, but look at the bottom corner of the box. Is this why we're not seeing any new scopes? I'm sorry I'm not going to go buy a smart device and a cradle attachment just so I can have the "next nerf scope".
ReplyDeleteMylastdart hinted that nerf will be releasing a lot of attachments which will be separate, this is possibly whey the only attachments seen all year is the limited elite pinpoint sight, this bipod and the retaliator attachments.
DeleteDon't lose hope, there will be much more attachments (mld). Think about it, this thing shoots 100 - 150 feet, there is no way a iPod/iPhone can handle that. We will most definitely see a zoom scope.
DeleteIf you remember the actual range tests, the Elite series only ranged about 45 feet (give or take) reliably. My best guess is that this will reach about to 75-85 feet reliably. However, on many playing fields, this is still a sniper rifle- set it up at one end of the yard and pick them off as they come around the side of the house. I'm also worried about the accuracy- power is useless without control, and if you'll look at where the magazine is, it barely has more length than the Longstrike. Eep.
Deleteunlike the elite series which was advertised as 75ft that was angled, this is 100 ft flat which is a huge difference. MLD said this.
DeleteAll I'm saying is that hasbro probably wont be producing "scopes" any time soon, since their pushing their mission app and cradle. I can't wait to see what MLD has to say after the 15th!
DeleteI like it. Can't wait for any actual news about it. I'm wondering if it has a 2 different primed modes since it shows two darts with one going further.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many people will use this for HvZ. Its range is superior to most mods, if you didn't see it MOST, but the prime is massive and sorta unideal for fast firing.
ReplyDeletei think a few will at first or as a long range only kind of thing but in general probably not because it has low ROF and small magazines so in terms of being better against zombies the strongarm is better, faster to prime, lighter, smaller, same amount of shots and faster to reload if you only have one magazine
DeleteIt would say it is like Multishot madness. A side series branched off of N-strike Elite
ReplyDeleteThat's nice. Can't wait to get a hold of one.
ReplyDeleteWhere would the plunger rod go? I see that the draw length is massive, but the space behind is pretty small.
ReplyDeleteRods? Where we're going we don't NEED rods...
DeleteMore seriously if you make the plunder cylindrical and of appropriate length a rod isnt needed as the shape of the plunger will keep it aligned. The ridge for teh catch can be made a part of that. In short the rod is completely superfluous to a free floating plunger design.
I have a knack for reading nearly illegible writing, and this is what I can make of the blurb on the upper right:
ReplyDeleteReach Mega distance with the high caliber Centurion blaster!
Hold your position and line up the perfect shot as you push
the boundaries of the battlefield to new limits. Extend
your range with mega darts that fly farther! Unleash
ultra-long range blasts with the longest Nerf (TM)
blaster and become the ultimate mega marksman!
The Nerf Mission App blurb on the lower right:
Turn your blaster in to (sic) a battle camera!
Use with the Nerf Mission App Tactical Rail Mount (sold separately).
- Gather intel with your iPhone or iPod Touch
- Record videos(?) with your device's camera and share them with friends!
- Zoom in on your target in Scope Mode and more!
The distance graph on the left seems to want to show range test results (a la fan range tests like Randomshadow's), with the top dart showing the maximum range of 90-100 feet and the percentage of darts in their shooting range that reach that distance, and the lower dart showing the lower end of the range.
damn, ur good!
DeleteWell everyone, it took some staring, but I finally managed to decipher the part of the back of the box in the top right corner
ReplyDeleteReach mega distance with the mega caliber centurion blaster! Hold your position and line up your perfect shot as you push the boundaries of the battlefield to new limits. Extend your range with mega darts that fly farther. Unleash ultra long range blasts with the longest nerf blaster and become the ultimate mega marksman!
Something that I noticed when I looked at the two images was that the magazine is angled a different way in the small photo with the iphone cradle than in the main picture.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely a range dedicated blaster. It will be outclassed by just about everything at distances shorter than say... 50-60 feet. If you're going to use this you're going to set it up farther back and you're going to NEED to be a good shot.
ReplyDeleteThis is an actual box. If you look closely at the corners, they are kind of damaged like from shipping or storage.
ReplyDeleteWhere's the clip release button?
ReplyDeleteFor those of you wondering why the bolt was half primed in previous pictures, I'll bet you can prime it halfway for a fast mid-range shot and prime it all the way for the longer range shots, like whatever that bottom info square is saying. I hope this really can achieve 100ft ranges.
ReplyDeleteIf you look closely you can see the Centurion. JK, I'll bet the mag release is right behind the magazine in that little glimpse of a crack.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see fools try to noscope with this.
ReplyDeleteGUYS!!!! I have made a shocking discovery using a little measurement science on the centurion! I realized that we know the size of the mega darts ( 4 by 1 inches ) and on the back of the box is presumably the scaled down size of the darts and the blaster, so I applied an o.o.k.s (an OBJECT OF KNOWN SIZE). Because we know the length of the darts I can measure the centurion picture with the tiny pictured darts and multiply it by 4, essentially using the dart as a tiny 4 inch ruler. It turns out it isn't the supposed 5 feet but about 3 feet long (2 feet 6 inches to be exact) so did nerf scale it down because of negative feedback about the outrageous length? Please comment!!!! :D
ReplyDeleteVery interesting observation. We'll still have to see what happens when it comes out. Those angled pictures were pretty deceiving, but I did a quick version of the same measurement and came out with approx 42 in. which comes out to 3ft 6in... So a foot longer than you expected, though still a foot and a half smaller than the supposed 5 ft.
DeleteBut putting it in comparison the Longshot is only about 36in long with stock all the way in (exactly 3 ft) and around 40 in with the stock out (3ft 4 in) So even if it is only 3ft 6in like I measured out it is still longer than the Longshot was.
(Did the 4in dart ruler, measured along the gun and had 10 and 1/2, 4in sections coming out to the 42in (3'6") total)
Uh guys? Not to burst your bubbles, but by my eye it looks like the darts wouldn't fit in the clip at that scale. Hence, the darts are larger (compared to the blaster) than if they were 1:1. This is just by eye, you must understand, I'll leave the ruler-ing to you two.
DeleteI reckon the blaster will be pretty close to the previously quoted 5 feet.
Agree with Eroomdivad. The darts in the picture aren't necessarily on the same scale as the blaster.
Deletethat's for advertising purposes. Hasbro/Nerf has done it with previous products
DeleteI think it's probably gonna be under 4 feet. My reasoning for this is that this is something designed for kids. I can't even imagine anyone under 12 using this monster if it were 5 feet long. The thing would be longer than the kid who's using it is tall! My best guess as to the priming mechanism is that pulling it half way will allow it to achieve faster loading, and priming it all the way makes it shoot the full 100 feet. I'm a bit iffy on this thing shooting 100 feet flat. Isn't there some law against using a toy gun that can shoot that far? I mean, imagine it being fired at point blank, that thing is gonna send 8-year olds screaming to their mommies.
ReplyDeleteSeems legit...
