There was a lot of interest behind the proposed new "Tek Recon" blaster line from the NY Toyfair 2013; mainly because they looked absolutely incredible aesthetically with real triggers and pump action cocking. They apparently use a new rubber band style ammo that hits over 75ft but they've also taken cues from other augmented reality attachments (such as with Hasbro's current Lazer Tag line and the upcoming new Nerf Rebelle gear) to add a new dimension to your gameplay using an iOS or Android device. We received the official press release this morning regarding Tek Recon's crowdsourcing efforts on Kickstarter.com.
I for one am pretty keen- more details after the jump:)

I love how the blasters look. Depending on what the rewards for backing are I might throw some money at them.
ReplyDeleteThese look awesome. Are you going to review them Pocket?
ReplyDeleteThese look strikingly like Dahl made guns from borderlands 2!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the shipping to Australia will be like if we purchase products on the Kickstarter...
ReplyDeleteThe products look very cool though.
Also I'm wondering something.
ReplyDeleteFor most Nerf guns, you prime the gun with the pump, and then fire with the trigger.
With the Nerf Snapfire, however, pulling the trigger both primes AND fires the gun.
These guns are the same as that - except that you can fire them by either the trigger OR the pump.
So keeping that fact in mind - that the amount of firing force is limited to what you can put in with a single finger's force on the trigger - I'm thinking that both the Hammerhead (pistol) and the Havok (rifle) must therefore have the same exact power/range.
Looks like a real-steel spec. rail on top, so more (and more expensive) attachment options.
ReplyDeleteFrom the video, it almost looks like the trigger is used to load the next round, and then actually fires when the prime is pulled back
ReplyDeleteThe priming system looks weird, it looks like it fires upon priming of the blaster, instead of when you pull the trigger. That's a shame, I was actually pretty excited. Nothing throws off your aim more than having to operate moving parts at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI messaged them on Kickstarter asking about the priming mechanism and android compatibility, and they messaged me back.
ReplyDelete"Hey,
Thanks for checking us out and being interested in Tek Recon. Our blasters can be fired with the trigger OR the pump. They both work independently of each other (no need for priming). Depends on your style and how you'd like to shoot.
As for the app, the answer will depend on your smartphones OS:
iPod Touch 4th Gen
iPod Touch 5th Gen
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S
iPhone 5
Android 2.3.3 and up (we don't have a list here as there are just too many smartphones to name).
It is a game, but likely not as draining to memory as most because there aren't tons of crazy graphics. We really focus on the gameplay, vision modes, features, etc. as opposed to long animation sequences.
You can play with the internet to play a full game with your friends, but you can also play solo with the scopes, sighting, effects, etc. without the internet.
Hope that helps!
Graeme"
wow the blasters look amazing can't wait thanks tek recon.
ReplyDeletetek recon whats you plan in the future? Are you going to make full auto guns? Or maybe slings and holsters? I think that your idea or making these blasters is awesome. Hopefully your gun will be in human vs zombies. I have to say the app was a great idea. It is amazing how you do it. Ctf is going to be cool. Any way I have a idea for the tek recon you should make a care package like in call of duty that has 1 power up in it. You should have a random button on the power up. tek recon cannot wait and you guys look like a amazing company thats all thank you for your time
ReplyDeletetek recon are you going to make blasters that connect? thank you for your time thanks :D
ReplyDeleteTek recon are you going to make extended mag for you new line of blasters and are you going to work on a new ammo besides rubber bands? Like maybe missiles, darts, or disks and if you decide to use dart are you going to use shells? I honestly think that tek recon is like the new Nerf thank you for your time and thank for listing :D .
