Rumours: Mission App tactical rail mount

We saw these cradles flagged for the upcoming Rebelle series of blasters, but here's a first look at ones for the N-Strike Elite line courtesy of you guessed it- Baidu:) It's an idea that's been thrown around lately- chuck in an Apple iPhone and you've got yourself a tactical rail mounted 'battle cam' via a free iOS app. I love the idea, but hate the fact they're pinning so much on Apple products (I don't own any Apple products) and will potentially encounter the same issues the Lazer Tag LTAR series had if they don't rectify the physical compatibility issue with devices. Still, if the app IS cool and well done, it does potentially add a new layer to gameplay hat they seem to feel is the "next gen" of Nerfing...

More pics after the jump.

  1. This is kind of cool, just as long as nerf can use it simply. If they make the app over complex and unnecessarily flashy I will be rather disapointed

  2. Look at the blaster its mounted on. Rapidstrike?

    1. Yep it looks like the Rapidstrike, but this time with a white stripe instead of orange, I think most people would prefer to see the white version.

  3. Camera for recording? yeah ok, some people might find that useful... rangefinder mode? don't know how that can work with an ios camera, but hey, could also be useful... but why can nerf justify selling this as a separate entity?... "in-app purchases available but not required." ah. now it makes sense. Forget making blaster accessories available to all, Nothing like having the only accessory being sold on its own being able to generate its own revenue stream.

Also noticed a complete lack of the Google play symbol on the box and instructions, so yeah pretty much ios exclusive. Not that I'm worried.

    1. Are you surprised that the orange stripe coloring of a prototype is different from the white stripe coloring of the final product, which matches the style of all the other blasters in the line?

    2. why would the box have a orange stripe if it was just orange on a prototype? if the box had a white stripe i would believe that more willingly.

    3. Just surprised since this is the first I've seen of it.

    5. Did it ever hit you guys that it's just the Asia version. All blasters out of the US have gray triggers, maybe the Orange is an out of the US thing too.

    6. Kyle, we have seen both the asian and us versions of the rapidstrike, if you look at the pictures taken we have pictures of both the 20 m box and the 75ft box

    7. If it was an Asia only version, then why bother putting the text on the box in english?

  5. The problem with the incompatibility is this: Nerf wants the phones/iPods completely enclosed all around for protection, just like with the LTAR; and while with Apple, there's only about five form factors to worry about (3GS, 4/4s, 5, and two generations of iPod Touch), Android phones come in all shapes and sizes because of multiple manufacturers and complicated release patterns. The only viable solution for Android is TekRecon and AppBlaster's solution: a flimsier adjustable clamp solution, which can't possibly be as safe as Nerf's fully enclosing (except for the screen)solution.

  7. Personaly I find this attachment to be worthless & hope they some day get around to producing/releasing more useful attachments like the Pinpoint sight. About all I see this being good for is dropping your over priced I phone on the ground when the ok but not great rail clip loses it's grip. I wouldn't put a $100 holographic sight on a nerf blaster so why would I put a multi hundred dollar phone on one.

  8. that would be the centurion zirdon

  9. This is going to be obsolete the moment a new iPhone comes out with different dimensions. They should have made it adjustable so other smartphones could be used for it as well.

    1. Time to switch to Tek Recon...

    2. Well, if their rail accessory works on the one Nerf uses, I might check it out. Might.

(Don't have a smartphone, so, meh.)

    3. well apple just remanes the phone and rebrands it

  10. Oops! I dropped my blaster! Wait, MY iPOD!!!!!!!!!!

  11. ...So you could just put your phone in there and launch the Tek Recon app from there, right?
So basically Nerf is trying to steal their industry?!?!
That's a pretty cheap trick, Hasbro.
