Basic Nerf: Unboxing Gear Up Package from Nerf (Video)

Oooh goodies! Our friends at Basic Nerf were sent a sweet box-o-joy from Hasbro's PR team with the Nerf Gear Up N-Strike blasters to check out. Ours must have been lost in the mail. (or so we keep telling ourselves!!)

Gear Up N-Strike Series: Pic Spam

Gear up for.. tidying my living room. What a mess!
Nerf's upcoming Vortex line of disc shooters have prompted a new.. 'Gear Up' paint scheme for existing N-Strike blasters. Not sure what orange, black and light grey ave to do with gearing up, but I admit in person they are kind of pretty. There's not much I can really say about repaints of old blasters, so I'll just let the pic spam do the talking. Images after the jump.

Gear Up Raider CS-35 images: up close and personal PIC SPAM

We've been lucky to get some pretty nice up close and personal pics of the upcoming Nerf N-Strike Gear Up colour scheme Raider CS-35. It's a nice looking piece of kit- the orange is the same colour as the standard streamline ammo clips and with the black stripe and light grey accents, the Raider admittedly does look very schmick indeed.

Personally, this is the only blaster in the Gear Up line I'm interested in. More pics after the jump.

Rakuten.jp prices for Gear Up

Japanese shopping site Rakuten have listed some prices for a few of the Gear Up repaint line of N-Strike blasters- the Recon CS-6 and the Maverick REV-6. Translating the page of course is never the best way to get info so happy to put it to anyone who can read Japanese. The translation for the Recon:

Limited N-Strike Giaappukarabajon!

Six bullets and darts normal stream, in addition to a total of 12 bullets darts plus six bullets had painted up a gear as a bonus darts, darts has been sealed prior to use disk-shaped vortex!

Also on the page are some links to preordering the Vortex series- there're no images but they've got placeholders and product text:

The new line, "Vortex" series was born! !
N-Strike series Rongudisukushutingu beyond!
The disk-shaped darts, which significantly exceeds the distance achieved Rongudisukushutingu normal firing NERF!
The new line, "Vortex" is Ridoaitemurasuta series.
Disks can be loaded with five bullets. N-shooting can be enjoyed over the long strike.

Sorry, my Japanese sucks:P

Nerf Gear Up Official images: Nerf Nation/Facebook

Gear Up Raider CS-35. Lil' green thing included:)
Nerf have posted official images of their upcoming limited edition Gear Up blaster repaints on their official Facebook page. What's a very clever marketing move is they appear to throw in a sample of the upcoming new Vortex range disc ammo. I'm not quite sure why the Raider is featured here with whistler darts rather than streamlines, but that might just be a promo image faux pas:)

I have to admit, they may just be repaints of blasters I already own (and I have multiples of all of these..how many Maverick and Recon variants does one person need!).. but I'll be shellin' out the $$ AGAIN for them. They look TRICK.

Variants- Our thoughts

Soo..Gear Up variants- you’ve had your say.. some of you like it and some of you don’t. The question I’ve gotten a lot over the past week is will I pick them up when (or in regards to Australia - if?!) they come out.. I gotta say I’m pretty sure we will. We’d like to think our current Nerf blaster collection is pretty comprehensive; I’m a completionist and have pretty much picked up everything Nerf can bring out (sometimes even 2 or 3 of them), regardless of whether I actually like it:P Other than the Sonic series Deploy and the Clear Vulcan, we’ve done pretty well to acquire the current lineup (emphasis on current- no, no Airtech’s or Crossbows..).

Although I would have liked to see more variety with blasters than just the usual suspects- I do actually like the ‘alert tape’/’construction site’ paint scheme, and I especially am looking forward to the updated Raider even though there is already a clear variant. The Raider is one of my favourite blasters so I don’t mind owning several of them and at least three of the four Gear Up blasters will support a stock attachment so it’ll be nice to coordinate amongst them (.. assuming you DO get all of the range!) I personally believe they would have done a LOT better if they repainted the Stampede, Alpha Trooper, Spectre and Barrel Break- IMHO that would have been a much more suitable “gear up VS the Vortex” line that would probably be enough of a stimulus to get people buying.

Still.. it is what it is. With all the whinging and complaining though, the one thing to remember is ultimately no-one’s forcing you to buy them. Like with the 'Clear the Way's' and the 'Sonic Series', they’re not replacing or discontinuing the existing line, they’re a short burst run that’ll be gone by September/October.

No doubt there’ll be plenty of repaints in the future.. so how abouts we get in early folks; what blaster and repaint design combination would attract you to buy a variant?

Amazon Japan: images of the Gear Up series

Brought to our attention by 'Mr Racoon'- Some promo images of the upcoming Gear Up N-Strike line- the Recon CS-6 and the Maverick REV-6 on the Japanese Amazon. I am a lil' over the Maverick and Recon and personally think they should rotate the limited edition blaster lines (I mean seriously, HOW many Mavericks do you really want!) but at least there will be a Barricade and Raider as well.

Official image of the HK Toy Fair 2011 Nerf Stand

Official image of the stand @ the HK Toy Fair (via Nerf Nation on FB)
Nerf have posted an image of their stand on their Facebook page from the HK Toy Fair a few weeks back. They even make references to the "Gear Up" blasters in their post if you look closely at this pic (and how crazy does that Gear Up'd  Recon look in this light!)- which makes me wonder how the HK Toy Fair came and went and there was absolutely no coverage of the "Gear Up" blasters until now?
