Dual wielding: Nerf Barrel Break IX-2 rig

Our main man Neil from the Canberra and Southern NSW Dart Tag crew came up with a pretty cool rig to carry two Barrel Break IX-2's on his back. A back pack and some car bins, a bit of innovation and creativity accompanied by a whole bunch of 'man-sewing' and this is the result. Sorta depends on how flexible you are though:)

Nerf Barrel Break vs BB Double Shot

Is the Barrel Break IX-2 any good? Personally we've stayed away from non-Nerf foam blasters, but the one blaster that is commonly mentioned as being on par if not better than the Nerf variety is the Buzz Bee Doubleshot. Nerf Mods + Reviews has a pretty tidy head to head comparison between the two, and while it's in the modded realm, it's still a great read.

Dual wielding: Nerf Barrel Break IX-2s

Dual wielding shotguns? tonka tuff and then some.
Nerf's Barrel Break IX-2 is an interesting blaster in that OFFICIALLY it's semi automatic.. but you feel stupid saying that given it only fires off two rounds. It has versatility in that you can fire off those two rounds either one AFTER the other, or both at the same time. But.. it's still.. only two rounds. SO what would happen if you dual wielded a pair of them? Well to put it bluntly.. you'd have.. 4 rounds.

Barrel Break IX-2 Round Holder: An attachment that's actually useful

Barrel Break IX-2's round holder on a Barricade RV-10
One of the more useful tactical rail attachments in the N-Strike line is the Barrel Break IX-2's 8 round dart holder; while it DEFINITELY makes sense with the Barrel Break, it got me thinking how useful would it be on other blasters? As far as attachments go, it's pretty boring, but as for functionality, it's awesome.

Nerf Barrel Break IX-2 Loading + Firing

The Barrel Break IX-2 in action. Please note the test darts I'm using are getting a lil' worn and not firing as far as they used to; fresh darts do much much better. But it gives you an idea of the firing mechanism anyway:)

Barrel Break IX-2: Up Close + Personal

"Barrel Break IX-2. To guard my precious assets"
The Nerf N-Strike Barrel Break IX-2 is an upcoming (by Australian standards) blaster that fires two rounds between each load, either simultaneously or one after the other. It gets its design cues from a sawn off shotgun and is although we've only had it for a few months (our review here), it's already become a firm favourite amongst us at Urban Taggers. Soo what makes it so cool and why do we like it so much?

Dual wielding: seemed like a good idea at the time

Gun Kata. Or.. possible two sticks of fairy floss.
How cool is dual wielding? We're talking twin 6 guns in the wild wild west- two hand guns in any John Woo movie you can think of (including Appleseed!), and of course my all time fav, Sweet Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider games packing a pair of pistols will just does it for me every time. It's sort of the ultimate in any form of roleplaying (try it- hand a pair of toy pistols to any male and watch him go..) but while in movies this is always sooo cool.. in the world of Nerf this is not so easy. Nerf blasters require your other hand to cock the primer, so unless you've got them on a shoulder strap (in which case it's not REALLY dual wielding but using one after the other) or you're tying your trackie daks drawstring through your pair of Mavericks, you'd traditionally be out of luck. Till.. now:)

Review: New Nerf Round up- favourite configurations

Not including the Stampede (and the clear series of blasters), there are at least 5 "new" Nerf N-Strike blasters available overseas that are not available domestically in Australia. Adding to that items like the Longstrike (which doesn't seem to "officially" be an Australian release) and accessories like the Mission Kits, camouflage darts and the popular tactical vest, we down under do get royally shafted compared to our overseas cousins. As a collector, I've managed to acquiring all of the new gear to date and other than the novelty of them being "new", I personally believe the cool stakes are definitely much higher than older blasters from years gone by. My attention however has shifted now from merely "acquiring" to properly "playing" with them..

Preview: Nerf N-Strike new releases for 2010

Nerf has released four new N-Strike guns for 2010 that are enough to get any Nerf collector jumping up and down like a crazy man in excitement. The stealthy looking Spectre REV-5, tonka tuff looking Alpha Trooper CS-18, the bad-ass looking Barrel Break IX-2 and the all important flagship Stampede ECS.

Good news is most of them are already out in various parts of the world. Bad news.. not Australia:( I've got my networks in Hong Kong and the US onto it for me so here's hoping I'll still be able to pick 'em up..
