Whiteout + Super Soaker: Sorta works

Since the Whiteout series was announced, there's been much speculation about how cool it'd be to mix and match the attachments from the Whiteout blasters with the new 2011 Super Soaker line. We've been lucky enough to have the full suite of both lines, and were looking forward to doing a whole lot of mix n matching.. right?

Well.. sort of. Firstly, although both blasters are predominantly white, they do use different colour palates- mainly the navy blue with the Super Soakers vs the grey and black of the Whiteout series. The attachments don't clash, but they're not an ideal match either. Secondly, Nerf's choice of blasters for the Whiteout series looked awesome in the scheme, but aren't really compatible with the Super Soakers. None of the Whiteout blasters accommodate the regular Raider/Recon stock- Longstrike and Deploy have their own unique stocks, and the Maverick and Nitefinder don't have the attachment. In turn, none of the Super Soakers can accommodate the barrel attachment of the Longstrike... so really, all we're really left with.. is the Longstrike sight.. and the Shot Blast scope:( Still.. we made do with what we had.. more pics after the jump:)

YouTube: Nerf + Super Soaker Modern Warfare

I'm not one to advocate violence- but this video I guess could be considered kinda cool. Still, it's great commentary on that argument of the effects of playing with toy guns and the media have on our young impressionable children:P Drug deals, terrorists and meth labs? Sheesh.

Super Soaker Tornado Strike: Helix on steroids

Tornado Strike with Shotblast scope. Looks tuff.
We were pretty proud of ourselves months ago when we brought the Tornado Strike to the world's attention; unfortunately we couldn't get our hands on one until now, so I have no doubt people have pretty much already seen it, bought it, and there are probably units sitting outside fading in the sun of some kid's backyard by the garden hose:P

ANYWAY.. what matters is.. we DO have one, so now we can give you our opinion on the Tornado Strike. And it's exactly as I thought.. It's a Super Soaker Helix on steroids:)

Super Soaker Shot Blast: updated colours - we got one:)

We got ourselves a new Super Soaker Shotblast with the new 2011 colour scheme courtesy of our man Dave. Although the blaster itself isn't one of our fav's (technically, it's not completely a piston based water blaster, but as far as we're concerned, no trigger, no fun) it does look cool and the big wins are it comes with the repainted detachable shotblast stock and the Shotblast scope ( the scope was originally a bonus add on only available at Toys R Us).

We've done a writeup on the Super Soaker Shotblast already, so here's just a pic spam of the new colour scheme after the jump:)

Super Soaker Hydro Cannon Commercial.

As spotted on Basic Nerf, the commercial for the new Super Soaker Hydro Cannon. It's a cool ad and I love this blaster, but I personally find it a tad deceptive; the vid is filmed it in such a way that it looks like the Hydro Cannon shoots a steady stream.. which it doesn't. It's a big burst of water that goes kapow:)

Super Soaker Tornado Strike: Johnson Arms

The Super Soaker Tornado Strike might be a dorky helix wannabe performance wise, but it's definitely one of the best looking blasters ever made. What's better looking than a Tornado Strike? A Tornado Strike that's been given the Johnson Arms treatment...

Check out his stuff for more drool worthy aesthetic mods here:

Fake Super Soakers.. Please avoid.

Eeech. Although they say 'imitation is the sincerest form of flattery," I still cringe every time I see a fake Super Soaker- in this instance some very dodgey looking CPS1500 wannabes found in a Toyworld bargain bin. While from first glance they may LOOK similar to the 1500, they're considerably smaller and shoddily built, and I'm pretty sure lack any of the genuine CPS internals that make the CPS1500 a..well CPS. Sure you can pump them up, but small apertures and crap air pressure make these fakes nothing like the blasters they're trying to imitate. Avoid.

Super Soaker Bottle Blitz: updated 2011 colours

The new aesthetically improved Bottle Blitz
While not actual "new" gear, I'm still pretty amazed at the amount of 'refreshed' Nerf and Super Soaker gear that is coming out off shore (ie the US!).

Here's the old faithful Super Soaker Bottle Blitz with new updated 2011 colours. I am a fan of the 2011 colour scheme, but I do find it interesting that they still keep the Bottle Blitz around; it's been through at least 3 different paint jobs and isn't really one of the more exciting blasters to date. It also doesn't take any attachments so the new paint scheme isn't really all that neccesary other than for unanimous branding purposes.

Anyway, available at US kmart's. Thanks to Nerf Blaster Reviews for the intel.

Subway Smoothies: Spot the water blasters

Think you know your water blasters? Subway's new Smoothie ad features a mad crazy water fight between lots of attractive people having a great old time. All of their water blasters have been painted grey, but that doesn't mean they're not unidentifiable:) Check it out and see if you can pick 'em?

Hydro Cannon vs CPS 2700.. youth vs experience

It's proven the new 2011 Super Soaker Hydro Cannon DOES feature CPS tech, but is it as good as OTHER older CPS water cannons like the 2000 model CPS 2700?

SO here's a video.. one thing for sure..they definitely perform differently.. I guess you'll just have to decide which one you think is better for you (that and the CPS 2700 is discontinued!).

Aesthetics also MAY play a part... :P

Constant Pressure System Water Blasters

When it comes to water blasters, we admit we tend to go on about CPS tech a lot, but we realise there are many of our readers (especially the younger ones) who have never had the joy of experiencing a true vintage Constant Pressure System Super Soaker first hand. "What makes them so good?" is a common question; while I'm not sure our readership really cares for the technical aspects of why, we thought we'd just show you what we mean in video form.

So, although these are two very different classes of water blaster, here we demonstrate the current 2011 Super Soaker Thunderstorm vs the vintage 1998 Super Soaker CPS 1000. It hopefully should speak for itself:)

Super Soaker Tornado Strike + Scatterblast via SG Super Soaker

At the end of last year Australia was doing really well with getting Hasbro's blasters early; especially their Super Soaker range. This made a LOT of sense given it's Summer here atm, and given it's been a pretty wet season, water restrictions are not as tight as they were, which lends itself to water fights being more acceptable amongst..well everyone. First we got the Thunderstorm.. tick! Then the Point Break.. Awesome! And then..  nothing.  I thought it was well worth it to import a Hydro Cannon from the US, but was a lil unsure about the other two; the Tornado Strike + the Scatterblast.

I'm personally not partial to piston based water blasters, and so was not prepared to pay the incredibly high import costs to get these two, (and I went a little crazy acquiring much more effective vintage CPS blasters instead) but you can't deny they don't both look awesome, at least aesthetically. SG Nerf's new Super Soaker site features them (obviously they're available in Singapore!) and he's done some awesome vids so have a look and see for yourself if you're interested in hittin' up Amazon:)

Super Soaker CPS 1000: Trip down memory lane

Super Soaker CPS 1000. Awwwww yeah..
When it comes to classic CPS tech water blasters, the Super Soaker CPS 1000 is definitely up there as one of the best ever made. Powerful as all hell, decent capacities yet small enough to do commando rolls with.. this was one of the first CPS blasters that ever came out. I remember them being given away (along with the CPS2000's) for a Men in Black movie tie in promo back in the 90's with everyone remarking at the sheer size of these new water blasters...(in those days the biggest blaster before CPS tech blasters came out was the Super Soaker 200 and 300..)

There's no real purpose to this post other than I picked one of these up on eBay the other day and I just had to do a lil victory dance over it all. It's pretty beat up, but it still works a treat:)
Sun faded tips and scratches, but it still packs a mega punch
That's all:)

Super Soaker Hydro Cannon test videos

Some quick vids on the new Super Soaker Hydro Cannon. Admittedly, not the best vids, but the neighbours downstairs were having a dinner party so I couldn't do the normal "shoot off the balcony" thing I normally do:) Gives you an idea anyway:)

Review: Super Soaker Hydro Cannon

The much anticipated Hydro Cannon is the largest water blaster in the new 2011 (Nerf) Super Soaker line. It's big, it's tough and the most exciting part about this blaster is it does incorporate the awesome Constant Pressure System (CPS) tech found in the glory day blasters of the 90's.

Amazon.com finally came good and lo and behold, my Super Soaker Hydro Cannon arrived today. After doing my little victory dance, I cracked it open and can safely say.. its pretty damn cool...

Super Soaker Shot Blast: updated colours

Shotblast with new 2011 repaint. Niiiice:) Pics courtesy of Nerf Mods + Reviews
Saw these on Nerf Mods + Reviews. First time I'd heard of, let alone seen these; new 2011 re-paint of the Super Soaker Shot Blasts. I quite like them; makes them all priddy and compatible with the new line. Looks like it also comes standard with the Shotblast scope that originally was a Toys R Us exclusive extra.

And the back of the box.
The box says they're a US Target exclusive. I dunno what happened with Super Soakers in Australia- we were kickin' butt with the Thunderstorm and Point Break before anywhere else in the world, and then.... nothing.

Water gun guide on Nerf Mods + Reviews

Hydro Cannon Modded to shoot darts

The Super Soaker Hydro Cannon is getting pretty good reviews around the blogs; it's confirmed it DOES utilise CPS tech but rather than a steady stream, the Hydro Cannon is basically like the Flashflood set to "Flood" mode constantly (and basically 'dumps' the water on your opponent!).

The buzz on what you can do with it mod wise is also pretty high, but Jerm from Nerf Mods + Reviews gets to it first and does what he does best.. makes it shoot foam darts. Really far:)

Water blasters: our personal favs

CPS 1200.. Find one and get a happy:)
We don't REALLY like reviewing old blasters, mainly because it's a bit of a tease really; it's like promoting something that's awesome but then going "sorry, you can't have one" given they're actually pretty difficult for anyone to acquire. When it comes to water warfare though, it's a doozy because most current day blasters are of the equivalent of spitting on someone as far as drenching is concerned, and yet we personally prefer water fights to any other type of blaster battle so we feel our lack of reviews for water based artillery is detrimental to the waterfight cause:)

So this will be one of the rare occasions where we'll go into a bit more depth on the older gear; our personal arsenal of choice does on the whole disregard current day stuff and we went back into time and acquired some of the more formidable water blasters of old for our skirmishes. If you can find any of these, do pick them up; if you're a water fight fan then you won't be sorry!
